Lest We Forget: Steven Thompson, A Cove Hero
February 5, 2011

“Steven proved his point by jumping into the water and swimming out to the closest net.  From there he tossed a ball over the net towards the captive dolphins.  He wanted them to have some form of activity that could possibly take their minds off of their situation.  We wondered if they knew that the next dawn was likely to be their last.” ~ SSCS Cove Guardain Scott West, October 11, 2010 Read More . . .

She and her father, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society‘s Scott West, spent three months at The Cove documenting the barbaric evils of the dolphin hunters. Cyber Whale Warrior Hunter Shaffer
March 26, 2012

It’s no wonder that Hunter Shaffer’s dream is to swim in the ocean. He loves the inhabitants.

At the age of seven, he started to research fish. Having his own aquarium, he wanted to see that his little friends were well taken care of. As time wore on, he became well versed in aquatic nature. By the time he was 9, he was educating others on natural habitats and the ideal conditions for finned pets.

His online ventures gained him many friends and acquaintances. When he was nearly 11 years old, a biochemist at George Mason University introduced Hunter to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Learning that our ocean’s inhabitants were in such danger prompted him to become more than just an educator. He became an activist! Read More . . .

May 10, 2012

“. . . for twenty-one years, as a federal agent I’d see a problem, I’d walk into the middle of it and stop it. Not being able to do that in Taiji or do it here at the Dam is extremely difficult.”

I spoke with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society‘s Scott West while he was on location at Bonneville Dam. There is something that we can all do to aid him in this campaign. See for yourself!

Holise: You were in law enforcement. What did you do and how has it contributed to the work that you now do in Sea Shepherd?

Scott: I started law enforcement in the summer of 1987. I was hired as a criminal investigator with U.S. Customs Service and I was sent down to South Carolina where I was involved with Read More . . .

May 15, 2012

Shane and Sia, the Barbi Twins, have always been involved with animals but as they became more aware of the cruelties that were happening to animals they determined to dedicate their lives to the safety of all animals. They became very active in local spay and neuter and Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) programs, in protests against animal cruelty, vivisection, zoos, puppy mills, circuses and eventually made hands on efforts to rescue animals left behind during natural disasters. They were involved with helping lobby for animal bills, such as the horse slaughter bill, the pet food safety bill and the cat declaw ban. They are involved with volunteering at  Read More . . .

“And those who dismiss love for our fellow creatures as mere sentimentality overlook a good and important part of our humanity. But it takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal. And it is actually within us to grant them a happy life and a long one.”
