#News – #Indiana Snapperfest Illegal
I’d like to thank Happy Cabbie for his ongoing efforts to expose the atrocities of Camp Shore Campground in Rising Sun, Indiana. The following is from his Youtube page.
Snapper Turtles are cold blooded reptiles that have very strong jaws that can pinch and sever human fingers. They are also capable of being very flexible with its head. This makes handling them very dangerous due to it’s incredible reach with it’s beak-like jaws.
Like all turtles, the shell of a Snapping turtle is living tissue. As such it can feel pain. According to Frank Indiviglio of That Reptile Blog, lifting a turtle by it’s tail “will cause severe injuries to the spine and internal organs.” http://blogs.thatpetplace.com/thatreptileblog/2008/06/24/handling-snapping-tu…
According to http://www.matts-turtles.org/hold.html moving the turtle too quickly or roughly can cause the intestine to pinch which is not only painful, can can be deadly.
Like all reptiles, turtles are cold blooded animals and thus heal much slower than mammals. According to Tim Sizemore, the event organizer. The turtles are either eaten at the event or returned to the wild.

Because many of them sustain pain and trauma at Snapperfest it is suggested by many animal rights activists that many of the turtles die a painful slow death.
Looking into Indiana law, we find:
See Fox19’s shameful display of journalism as they whitewash the animal abuse and portray the event as family friendly fun. They intentionally censor out the scenes of animal torture to appease the owners of Campshore Campground and the coordinators of Snapperfest.

Click to see my call to Anheuser Busch (owners of Budweiser) about their sponsorship of animal abuse. I do not believe them when they say they had nothing to do with the event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xcKkYDgCkg
Click here to see the World Animal Awareness Society’s report on this event. If you have the means please donate a few dollars towards their work. A link to their donation page is on this Snapperfest Report http://www.wa2s.org/snapperfest.html
And props to the person who had some sweet revenge on Campshore Campgrounds by figuring out how to add this onto Google Maps http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Camp+Shore+Camp+Ground,+Aurora,+Indiana&hl=… Hover your mouse over the “A” to see what I mean.
If you haven’t seen Happy Cabbie’s video, Snapperfest: Animal Abuse, you can view his channel here and please thank him by subscribing .
Based on the information above, are the turtles at Snapperfest being abused? A current video of this year’s event will help determine that. Ooh! Look what was just released yesterday! It would seem that yet another Snapperfest attendee isn’t so pleased with Rising Sun’s cult festival. Will more videos, audio and photos from Snapperfest 2011 be popping up or will the contributors wait until next summer so that they can help infuriate the world anew? How would I know?
Wow! I wonder just how many people we had on the inside.

Unfortunately, IC 35-46-3-8 has been misquoted. It says “animal *fighting* contests”, which are defined elsewhere as contests pitting one animal against another animal. Human-on-animal contests are excluded, so unfortunately, this particular law won’t be of any help.
This, however, may be of help:
312 IAC 9-5-6 Collection and possession of reptiles and amphibians native to Indiana
Sec. 6(n)
(1) A reptile or amphibian may be released without a permit issued under subdivision (2) if the reptile or amphibian:
(A) has not been held in an enclosure with another reptile or amphibian;
(B) has not been in captivity for more than thirty (30) days; and
(C) is released at the point of capture.
Snapperfest is definitely in violation of (A) (shown in video), and probably in violation of (C).
Unfortunately, it doesn’t prevent them from catching, torturing and killing the turtles, but it’s an additional avenue to apply legal pressure.
